Plant Based Food

The Problem

Cows and other dairy animals emit huge amounts of methane and animal waste can impact water and air quality.

How FJDMV is helping

We provide food that is both healthy for people and our planet. We primarily provide rice, beans, corn flour, oil, green vegetables, and a variety of fruit that fit with the traditional diets of the people we serve.

Our Partners

  • Potomac Vegetable Farms is an eco-organic farm that uses its own compost, rock powders, and natural minerals as environmentally friendly fertilizers. With a grant from Mid Atlantic Food Resilience and Access Coalition we purchased potatoes, green beans, onions, fruits, and more from them.

  • The Capitol Area Food Bank reduces food insecurity by providing food directly and through the region's network of nonprofit organizations at greatly reduced prices. We receive free produce from them and purchase beans, rice, oil and maseca.

  • Every Thursday So What Else delivers 10 pallets of glorious reclaimed produce and nonperishable goodies to a parking lot where our 30 community leaders work their magic to make mirages of food insecurity and deliver to 3,000 families monthly
